Colonel Lansana Turay

Retired Colonel Lansana Turay is a Board Member of the Sierra Leone Arc of Hope. He is currently a Child Abuse Investigator for the Department of Children and Families

 

Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Colonel Turay enlisted in the Sierra Leone Armed Forces in 1965 as Officer Cadet. After attending the Officer Cadet Training at Mons Officer Cadet Training School in Mons, Aldershot, England, he graduated with distinction, and commissioned Second Lieutenant in 1966. Colonel Turay served the Sierra Leone Armed Forces diligently. He attained senior military and administrative positions until his retirement in 1991 as Colonel, commanding the First Battalion. Throughout his service, Colonel Turay initiated and completed various community self help projects in Daru Barracks, Lungi Garrison, and the Wilberforce Barracks, and he was awarded the Honor of Member of Order of Rokel (Mil) is 1984. 

After retirement, Colonel Turay felt he still had energy to pursue other interests, so he relocated to the United States of America to attend Springfield College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services in 1995. Rtd. Colonel Turay continues his diligent service to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In 2003 he received the Performance Recognition Award from the Massachusetts Performance Recognition Program.
